Sorry, but it doesn't....
One of my favorite quotes in this subject matter is from my high school track coach (Coach Bailey) " Track is not a microwave sport". So in my own adaptation and take-away from this post is:
Fitness/Success/Improvement/ is not a microwave dinner.
We can sometimes get caught up in the end product of what we want to achieve and forget that true success takes time. Success also takes daily "smaller" actions that overtime compound and accumulate to produce a larger product. What do I mean by this? Well if you want to run in a 5k race and you have not run consistently in a while you need to start small by building your base everyday, and working on general strength everyday. You won't PR the day after you begin your training but by making daily decisions that are going to help you get faster at the 5k distance, you will in time start feeling the gains or "products" of your labor. We can apply this concept to so many different things such as tackling a chronically poor attitude and negative emotions, to saving money. The book " The Slight Edge " by Jeff Olson describes this concept as a philosophy and narrates many examples of how small daily actions are what create lasting success over the old "overnight" phenomenon.
I have been employing this technique of doing something everyday (even if it is small) that is inline with my goals I want to achieve - even when I don't feel like it ! (especially when I don't feel like it). Are there anythings you could be doing everyday to work towards your goals? Even if it is as simple as putting away a couple of dollars a day in your savings account or 10 minutes of core work when you get home from work or school - it counts!
Be patient, have faith, keep investing in the positive!
