Social media overload and MLMs

I have to say... taking biochemistry, coaching, and work has had me on a hiatus for a while. It also has me questioning whether I want to be worrying about posting, worrying about putting myself out there and creating content all the time. I have to say, I do love the creativity and I do love the people I get to connect with.... ok, let's get on with this post that I started and has been sitting in my drafts for months...oops!

Being a 20 or 30 something this day in age has it's unique challenges as I am sure many generations have had. Social media is a big one.

Social media has changed the way we date, shop, socialize, promote ourselves, do business, make money, lose money, learn, entertain ourselves, live our lives, change how we feel and think about ourselves, gain confidence, make friends, lose friends, stay in touch with family.

There are many advantages to social media but there are lot of disadvantages too like bullying, obsessing over an ex, and comparing yourself constantly to others and what you think you should be and be doing.

THEN there are those damn lula roe lulu roe? What is it? The leggings and all of the MLM's a pyramid schemes.  Ok - this one I am going to park it on for a while and go into it because I hate them but I also think if you are a consultant, coach, etc that uses them then you have had a lot of advantages. There are a few companies out there that actually have amazing products or services and why not use them.

Disadvantages:
- Having to be bought in. There are ones that don't cost much - BeachBody for example, and there are ones where you have to buy (lots of money)  into, which could cause you to go into debt.
- You have to be ON all the time. you have to be into your social media hard-core and constantly posting. Hey, maybe this is easy for you - but for a lot of us it is not.

Advantages:
- Using great products and services. I have friends into the Rodan and Fields (sp?) and they LOVE it. And I have to say, being able to see one of my friends in person and see the transformation - I know that it is not just some photoshop magic. I personally use BeachBody on Demand and Shakeology as well as their performance supplements and YES, they are worth it and in my opinion they are the BEST. Do I wish they were a little cheaper or had more sales? Yes. Do I wish they could make some more flavors ? Yes. All in all, SERIOUSLY my favorite sh*t.
- Another huge plus is the fact that these type of things force you to talk to people. We certainly lose touch with the art of communication because we are so use to being able to just creep on someone's facebook. I have to say, being able to have an actual conversation with the person is super rewarding and really does feel good.
- The mentorship you get in MLM's and the personal development is THE best part of them hands down. You get a network and a team of like-minded individuals who want you to do well and help you through tough patches in your business and your personal life. They are also your buddies to go through personal development books, workshops, etc. with. Those relationships are so amazing, and you might not get that with some of your friends.

So next time you want to rip your friends head off for posting about how much she loves her Shakeology or how long her eyelashes grew from her magic potion, think about all that she has been doing in her life. Think about how she is doing this to improve herself, feel good, and that she is putting herself out there wanting to share that experience with others. Sure, she will make a commission off your sale, but that isn't the end all be all because actually being in an MLM has to be passion driven and pushed by the desire to actually help and connect with others. It isn't easy, it's expensive, but you get more than you can actually see.
