New year resolutions ...
New year resolutions ... damn.
Something I really hate doing. It is that fear of failing and being in that limbo land of discomfort in order to get to that new goal that are scary. But why are they scary?
Well, I guess they actually are not scary, we are just conditioned to be uncomfortable with being uncomfortable and that is enough to get in the way of doing what we want. In order to effectively create change we need to commit to rewiring our brains into new patterns of comfort and be comfortable with the inevitable discomfort that we will have to live through along the way.
There IS a way to do this and even make it enjoyable - promise!
1. Idolize your why! Make sure you remind yourself WHY you are doing this and what it will feel like once you have accomplished it- how will you feel ? How will you walk about the world?
2. Enjoy the process and the little things along the way. YES, this is a must. In order to keep going when the going gets rough (and not quit), find the little things along the way that you can enjoy. We tend to get into these mindsets (especially athletes) that we push through pain and ignore the pain just thinking about the end result. While that has a time and place it doesn't work for long term goals. It makes you miserable to numb to everything for so long (unless you are the world’s best compartmentalizer). You lose your life - and that is something that you just might fear subconsciously and may be the reason why you didn't want to set that goal anyway!
Now, let's talk about that F-word. Failure. Not reaching that goal or resolution really eats away at me, and I know I am not alone. No one wants to think of themselves as a failure, yet when you don't accomplish a goal when and how you want you may identify as that finite situation of not achieving that goal at that moment. This is very nonsensical if you look at the big picture. Big picture: you cannot be a failure if you try to better yourself and go for a goal. Big picture #2 : you may have not been ready yet, and you have just narrowed down the ways to get yourself to that goal (crossed off an avenue that didn’t work). Big picture #3: you can always try again, who says there is a time limit or only one single way to accomplish something? (p.s. if you know that who - you should not be friends with them anymore, only good juju allowed).
With all of that being said I have some goals of my own I am willing to share with the internet - I hope you will help me keep to them!
1. Drink more water! (and consistently)
2. Have more fun!
3. Run more and regularly.
Ok, friends ! Happy goal setting and Happy New Year ! Have a fabulous 2018 ! <3
